Tips for finding high Lexile books for younger readers:

  • Search for titles at or near your child’s Lexile level then search the library’s catalog.  If we do not own a title, speak with a library staff member (by phone, email, chat or in person) about requesting the book through interlibrary loan (ILL).
  • Search for NC (non-conforming) titles.  This designation indicates a book with a Lexile score significantly higher than the expected range for the age of the intended audience.
  • Classics often have a high Lexile score.  Classics may be shelved in the Junior, YA and Adult collections.

Examples of classic authors:

  • Mark Twain
  • Charles Dickens
  • Arthur Conan Doyle
  • Jules Verne
  • Louisa May Alcott
  • Jane Austen
  • Rudyard Kipling
  • Lucy Maud Montgomery
  • JRR Tolkien
