Book Brag: Crush: the Theory, Practice and Destructive Properties of Love by Gary Paulsen

on January 2, 2014

This 3rd book starring the clever, inventive, slightly mishap-prone (although he always has the best intentions) Kevin Spencer is a tale of love, true love.

Kevin has a crush on Tina Zabinski (“I wanted to go on a date with her the same way I wanted to keep converting oxygen into carbon dioxide”) and, despite having no practical experience in the art of romance, is determined to uncover–via the Scientific Method–the secrets to winning her heart.  Along the way, he sets up his parents on a surprise date that ended with a dose of antihistamines, cat hair pasta and a small oven fire, discovers that the secret to a happy marriage is putting the toilet seat down, and learns to tap dance and repair friendships.

Here are a few words of wisdom from Kevin and his cohorts…

“I think that’s where a lot of guys go wrong; they don’t develop sufficient interpersonal skills before they start dating.”

“Dinner has dessert. If it doesn’t, it’s lunch.”

“Moms are always more calm and reasonable when someone small is cuddling them.”

“Not everything special looks special.”

You’ll have to read the book to find out whether he gets the girl 🙂
